Marriott Renaissance: BDNY Makers Space
Marriott Renaissance Hotels partnered with the Boutique Design New York (BDNY) trade fair to create The Makers Space, a showcase of eight hand-selected artists, design studios and craftspeople. The public space demonstrated each participant's capabilities through finished products, conceptual presentations and live creations. It also provided a welcoming environment for guests to explore and engage in lively conversation with the creators and Renaissance stakeholders. Presenters included: Danny Forster Studio, Nema Workshop, Creme Design, Steelhead Studios, Bruce Rosenbaum, Rob Niosi, Todd Chaill and Jim Su.
In conjunction, Renaissance created a design challenge for the showcasing artists to concept multi-valent furniture for its hotels. The concepts were to fuse art and technology and deliver on "RON" (Return on Novelty) to solve Renaissance's challenge of creating new furniture ideas for today's travelers. During the fair, Renaissance hosted a Shark-Tank style session in which each participant presented their solution and Renaissance chose the winner.
